It isn't just the PC crowd who doesn't want to hear the N word or a guy doing an hour of racial stereotype humor. Yet few people today would find that acceptable. I'm sure Rickles was pissed that he had to tone down then stop the act he had been doing for 20 years. Of course society has changed so that it just wouldn't be acceptable today and I appreciate that we have progressed. The rumor is that Brooks asked Pryor if using the N word this much was acceptable and his answer was as long as the stupid people said it he was good. Richard Pryor helped write Blazing Saddles. But their point was that the stereotypes were absurd. That kind of humor was accepted back then.

YOU are choosing to focus in on literally 10 secs of them saying “cancel culture” instead of seeing every other joke. Here you are criticizing them right now, how could they ever be immune to criticism? Like what r you talking about :) There is a lot of nuance in each case, they're not the same, so talking about them in general becomes extremely faulty, which is why it's so hard to discuss "cancel culture" and why people like Shapiro or Jordan Peterson can hide behind it and be associated with Burr/Gervais/etc which isn't necessarily useful. Just to be clear this isn't a conversation about 'the trans issue' at all, I'm only pointing out this particular aspect of language and it's usage in comedy on and off the stage. With the speed at which language and its uses are changing today, and the increasing disregard for context, again as Gervais points out, nobody could've predicted in 2015 that saying 'women don't have penises' would be in any way controversial, and yet I don't think the majority of people would be comfortable tweeting or even seeing someone else tweeting that. like it or not it was absolutely not a fire-able offense to use that language when he did, which is why he used it on Twitter at the time. Kevin Hart used the word f*g on twitter 10 years before his incident. Gervais actually made that point and I thought it was a pretty fair one.
